Metroid Prime 2: Echoes takes place on the strange planet Aether, which was split into two dimensions when a Phazon-laced meteor crashed into its surface. Whether Samus is looking to repair the rift, stop others from exploiting it, or just taking a space vacation is currently unknown. Samus will observe Space Pirates taking a portal to the alternate dimension and can then follow them through to the planet's "dark" half. The dark dimension often lives up to its name and is largely illuminated by various pools of light. These lit areas protect Samus against the dark dimension's corrosive atmosphere, and she can only venture outside of the light for a short period before taking damage.

Ty, a Tasmanian Tiger raised by a family of Bilbies, has only vague memories of his family and friends. He has always believed that his relatives died long ago, leaving him as the only surviving Tasmanian Tiger.During a chance meeting with the Mystical Bunyip Elder, Ty discovers that his fellow Tasmanian Tigers are still alive, but are trapped in the otherworldly realm of Dreamtime. He also learns that deep in the Australian outback exists a rocky outcrop with five sockets. When five magic Talismans are placed in the sockets, the portal to Dreamtime will open. Unfortunately, these Talismans have been lost, and an evil cassowary by the name of Boss Cass is trying to find them. Now Ty is on a quest to recover the Talismans before Boss Cass. If Ty defeats Boss Cass and his evil minions, the Tasmanian Tigers will be freed.

Dark Cloud stars a young adventuresome boy who must return a strange floating plot of land to its original place, presumably on earth
